Letter to Prospective Students

Do you love the ocean? Are you interested in wetlands? Do you want to preserve natural resources or make a positive impact on land development practices? Maybe you are just looking for a solid education to carry you through law school or provide a foundation for your business career. Even if you have no idea where your career path may lead, the Environmental Science program will offer a fun and challenging degree that will prepare you for a wide variety of environmental and professional careers.

Environmental Science brings together professors and programs throughout the entire university, so you are not limited to a specific environmental field. We offer an Bachelor of Science (B.S.) track that is designed for a career in science and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) track with less mathematics that is suited for pre-law or a career in business. Many of our graduates enter the job market as soon as they complete the program. They work for environmental science and engineering companies, government agencies, or non-profit organizations. With excellent academic training, these young professionals are able to quickly advance into roles with greater responsibility.

About one-third of our graduates move on to an advanced degree. We offer a fast track to graduate degrees at the University of Florida, where students begin taking graduate courses in their senior year. Graduates have also found our program prepared them for entrance into graduate programs like Duke, Yale, Michigan, Columbia, and Cambridge (UK).

If you are interested in law school, our recent graduates have been admitted to law programs at the University of Florida, Miami, Stetson, Florida State University, Georgetown, and the University of Vermont, among others. Alumni also pursue professional degrees in business, planning, and journalism.

If you would like more information, please contact me or our Academic Program Coordinator, Ms. Meisha Wade at mwade@ufl.edu or (352) 392-9230.

Sincerely,

Dr. Stephen R. Humphrey
